This video, without narration or dialogue, presents thirteen rubber-ball games played in various areas of Mexico that reveal continuity with pre-Hispanic ball games. The games are interspersed with drawings and statues from ancient times, contrasting past and present. There are glimpses of Teotihuacán and the ball field at Chichén Itzá. The players are modern day Indians and other Mexicans. The balls are various sizes and are propelled by the hand, elbow, hips, and a hammer-like device. One game is played by women who propel a ring forward with a stick. Oaxaca, Michoacán, and Yucatán are three areas represented in the tape.
